What is a functional capacity assessment?
A functional capacity assessment (FCA) is an evaluation of your daily living skills and support needs.
It provides evidence to:
Help you access the NDIS for the first time.
Develop your initial NDIS plan with appropriate supports.
Request additional funding during plan reviews.
Document changes in your circumstances or needs.
We document our findings in a detailed report that gives NDIS planners clear information about your abilities and challenges, helping ensure you receive the right level of support.
We help people of all ages with autism, mental health needs, physical disability, developmental delays or anyone struggling with daily tasks.
Our therapists help you develop practical skills that improve your everyday life.
What we assess
We evaluate your abilities across six key areas:
Mobility: How you move around your home and community.
Communication: Your ability to express needs and understand others.
Social Interaction: How you engage with family, friends, and the community.
Learning: Your capacity to gain new skills and process information.
Self-Management: Completing routines and tasks like shopping, cooking, cleaning, and managing money.
Self-Care: Personal hygiene, dressing, eating, sleep, and grooming.

What to expect
Here's how the assessment process works from start to finish.
Initial assessment session
We discuss why you need the assessment and what areas to focus on. We'll explain the process, gather background information, and ask questions to understand what supports are working or what supports you think you need.

Assessment sessions
Over 2-4 appointments, we discuss your experiences in each domain and may observe you completing daily tasks. After these sessions, we will send you standardised questionnaires to help us gather data to understand your abilities and support needs.

Assessment report
We write a detailed report documenting your strengths, challenges, and recommendations for NDIS supports. This typically takes 3-4 weeks and includes all the evidence NDIS needs for decision-making.

Next steps
Once you receive your report, you can submit it with your NDIS application or plan review. We're available to answer questions or provide clarification if NDIS needs additional information.
